What is WSET? Why is it the World’s Most Respected Wine Qualification?
A core feature of WSET training is the SAT® Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine®. This methodology teaches learners objective, standardised tasting logic instead of relying on subjective impressions. Applied across all levels, it forms the foundation of wine education.

While WSET does not mandate completion of Level 1 before enrolling onto Level 2, learners are strongly advised to start with Level 1 for progressive learning. Level 2 represents the most practically valuable and widely used benchmark within the WSET suite, a standard qualification for many winetrade professionals. WSET Level 3 Award in Wines – Professional Watershed: Qualification Benchmark for Trade Practitioners & Educators
Focus: Advanced professional training; comprehensive knowledge of global wine regions, winemaking and professional blindtasting competency
WSET Level 3 marks the recognised threshold for professionalgrade expertise. The difficulty increases substantially: learning shifts from rote knowledge retention towards logical analysis and blindtasting evaluation. For aspiring professional tasters, wine educators and senior wine buyers, Level 3 constitutes an essential foundational qualification. Although WSET rules do not legally require Level 2 completion for Level 3 admission, the course content is highly advanced. Attempting Level 3 without prior Level 2 learning is extremely challenging. Completing Level 2 systematically is highly recommended before advancing to Level 3.
Key Learning Content
- Indepth analysis of global wine regions: climate, soils, grape varieties, viticultural regulations and classification frameworks
- Viticulture, winemaking and maturation processes and their impacts on wine style and quality

- Wineindustry commercial logic, market trends and professional winebuying strategies
Course & Exam Information
In addition to inclass tuition, substantial selfstudy is recommended by WSET. Assessment comprises three components: 50 multiplechoice questions, 4 openended writtenresponse questions and a blindtasting paper. Overall difficulty is high and demands solid subject mastery plus extensive tasting practice. Successful candidates gain industryrecognised foundational professional competence.
