Rioja is one of the oldest wine regions in the world. It is well known for using Tempranillo and Garnacha to create world class quality red wines with excellent ageing potential. But with 3 separate sub regions – Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental, each has a different microclimate and various soil types, wine style can be diverse and unique. It also allows Rioja to produce high quality white wine with local grape varieties as well.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
In this Rioja masterclass, senior wine educator Corinne Mui will introduce 8 wines from the finest and most significant producers or wine makers to showcase how different climats and wine-making options affect the style, making Rioja famous for its complexity. The course will cover:
- Geography, climate and soil
- Wine characteristics of the Rioja
- Significant grape varieties
- Rioja by numbers
